The Gippsland Album progress report

1st February 2003
Emails sent to many schools across Gippsland asking for poems about gippsland.
12th February 2003
A most enjoyable experience spending 2 hours with the Mr. Lou Battista 's grade 6 class at St.Brendans Primary School in Lakes Entrance.   The children came up with as many words as they could describing Lakes Entrance.  We then put them into rhyming sentences to complete a poem.   I took some keyboards into the class and we came up with some melodies and ideas for

a song about Lakes entrance.    My goal now is to record the song asap and re-visit the school to preview the song to the class.     The 2 hour session with the class was filmed by Daniel Jenkins of Metung and the footage is intended to be used as a promo for the CD, and maybe a documentary about the making of the Album.
Thanks Daniel.

Radio interview with Ron Lock on 3GG.
We discuss needing more schools to be part of this project.
Toora Primary School & Churchill North Primary School make contact and we hope to set up a date to get together for a songwriting session.

80 year old Dorothy Watt calls to offer her poetry.   Fantastic!
19th February 2003
I receive a book of poems by a lady in Sale, written by her grandmother early last century.
Some really good poetry,  I've sat at the piano and I'm sure there are a few songs here.
20th February 2003.
Jo Hinchliffe (a specialized poetry teacher), Daniel Jenkins (the camera-man) and I visit Nowa Nowa Primary School.
(That's near Orbost)
We spend 2 hours writing poems and with my trusty keyboards there, a few more song ideas are created.  It looks like we'll have "The Nowa Nowa Blues".   The words were again remarkable!
Another song for the album for sure.  Hope to record it in the next few days.
Click on the pic below for some of the photos taken on the day and to check out the words.
